Popsicle Penny, that is me this cold wintery day. Miss Penny speaking, I hate the cold, which is a problem because winters are cold here in Ottawa. Susan
dresses me up like a pink popsicle, a pink doggie coat with a furry lining and pink bootees to match but I’m still cold. I try running back into the apartment, before we get to the elevator, that doesn’t work. Susan scoops up in her arms and even though I am already shivering she unceremoniously dumps me on the icy, snowy driveway and expects me to walk. First, I sniff the air and if it is not windy I take a stroll, I’ll even trot if it’s sunny unless my paws sting with the salt. Psst! Don’t tell Susan but if the snow is fresh and not too cold, it’s fun being outside. I can burying my nose and smell the squirrels, run and jump. I wish we had a backyard. However, here comes the popsicle part, the howling arctic wind is
brutal. I am not moving. I might freeze into a popsicle or get blown over. Nope! I am not moving and I’m definitely not squatting my butt. Susan can pull with all
her might, the only direction I’m going is home. Yep, I win and we go home. Oh here’s the evil eye, time to talk writing. The plot issues of the last couple of weeks are solved and Susan is hammering away on the keyboard as she starts pulling all the threads together and prepares to enter the conclusion phase of Heart of Sophie’s War. All kinds of trickery is afoot as someone tries to disrupt the unity of the camp hospital. Is romance in the air? Sophie kisses …guess who? No spoilers but she is aroused with desire, confused and very conflicted… Bye for now…
