Pasty Penny, my tummy is not feeling good, Miss Penny speaking. Susan said I looked pasty. Really! Now, I am a princess so I’m milking this for all I can but how my thick black fur is pasty is a stretch. Truthfully, I never have an appetite and
I’m picky with my food. But, I am feeling ignored. Susan is busy working on the cover and the back and front matter for Heart of Sophie’s War. So, I gobbled down my breakfast and then depositing it on the floor; this always gets her attention. I thought the book was finished but I was wrong. Things like the dedication are added and because Susan wrote this during the Covid pandemic she is dedicating it to all those frontline people, past and present, who protect us. Then there’s the acknowledgements, thanking the editor and all the people who helped. What?! My name is not there, but I’m Susan’s assistant. Uh, we’ll see about that. I think Princess Penny sounds pretty good. Too much? Maybe I need to look very, very pasty and play the sympathy card, or do you think the hurt card would work better? I think I have Susan’s attention now. She’s working on her
bio and a list of her published works. All this extra is called the front or back matter. I’m tired just thinking about it all. Susan is playing with cover designs and that cheers me up and I smell something tempting on the stove, perhaps I’ll eat today. Oops, here’s the evil eye. One last thing, which of these two mock ups appeal to you? More to come next week.
