Can you imagine a prickly bed? Miss Penny speaking. Well, I have a prickly bed. Picture this, Susan is writing which means I’m being ignored, so I curl up in
my little bed. I have three beds if you count Susan’s big bed, that’s the best one, but I can’t get up on my own so I make do with the little one in the office and a bigger one in the living room— I know, spoilt princess. Anyway back to prickly bed. We had just returned from a walk, it was an especially good walk through
Britannia Park, lots of amazing scents and sniffs. I could tell my friend Mitch had just been by and the squirrel scent was very strong so I sniffed into the bushes—one of these days I’ll catch one—sadly not today. As we walk home I get an itchy sensation in my fur and then my paw hurts, I sit down and chew my paw and
that seems better and when we get home Susan continues writing and I return to bed for a nap when it attacks me. I leap out, licking and chewing my feet and legs. Susan rescues me and discovers I am covered in burrs. Out come the scissors and it smarts a bit but eventually all the burrs are gone. I really need a rest after all that trauma, so I curl up to resume my nap but guess where those burrs are now? Right, in my bed, I gave a yelp and jumped out pretty quickly. Susan washed it, but now it smells clean and I don’t trust it. I sleep on the cold floor waiting for Susan to feel sorry for me, which she does and picks me up for a cuddle. Oops here comes the evil eye, time to talk about writing, believe it or not this blog started as ‘life with an author’. Heart of Sophie’s War A novel of the Great War, is up to 14,000 words. Sister Drew who is nasty piece of work gets Sophie in terrible trouble. Sophie discovers some secrets, (one she may not want) she saves Jo an ambulance driver and gets to know Emily better. So far the hospital conditions are okay, the accommodation is primitive but livable. However, the rain is starting and the mud is squelching and German attacks are closer.
May I suggest you read Prelude to Sophie’s War while you wait for the sequel – London 1915, German Zeppelin attacks are not the only thing Sophie battles at Bartley Hospital. Will her courage be enough to keep her sane and alive?
