It’s that time of the year again, Miss Penny speaking.
Doggie coats and doggie booties, although so far I’ve been saved from the humiliation of the boots.
Earlier this week, we prepared for our first big snowfall. News anchors warned of at least 15 cm. The weather forecast was correct, and it was called record breaking.
A bit dramatic, don’t think?
Isn’t there enough bad news around today without calling 15 cm of snow record breaking?
Anyway, off we went for our morning walk.
My paws felt cold in the wet snow, but I quite liked it and the city had not salted. Psst! The salt is awful. It stings my paws and I have to wear boots.
That is humiliating.
Although Susan says even the big dogs up north who pull the sleds wear boots, so next time Susan puts boots on me, I’ll be a strong sled dog.
How about Wonder Dog? I’ve no idea who Wonder Dog is, but if humans have powerful heroes like Wonder Woman, so can dogs.
Hee-hee! I like that idea.
By the time we got up to Carling Avenue, I was cold—Susan is still not walking far because of her ankle.
I’m shivering; my butt is cold. I stopped walking.
Now, I weigh 7 1/4 lbs, but I have the strength of Wonder Dog.
I am not moving, and no amount of tugging or pulling my lead will make me walk. I shiver some more, put on a sad face, look at Susan or any passerby for sympathy, and gently raise my front paw and wait.
I know, not exactly the picture of a Wonder Dog hero, but it works. Susan picks me up, and since she uses a walker at the moment, I get to sit in the basket and Susan pushes me through the cold snow.
To be honest, I’m not too keen on winter weather.
I don’t like the cold, wearing winter coats and I draw the line at boots. Yep, they keep my paws warm and stop the salt from stinging, but if Susan carries me; I don’t need them. Right?
Susan reminds me Wonder Dogs wear them and Wonder dogs, pull sleds in the Arctic. Hum! Maybe I need to rethink this. I like the idea of being a hero.
A hero in one of Susan’s books sounds good. I mentioned before, Lavender Cottage has four dogs in the series and a fifth dog has appeared in Lavender Cottage – Book 6.
Can you believe it? I am not one of them.
What an insult. I am seriously miffed!
