Surprise Gift for Penny!

Miss Penny discovers that her forgotten birthday wasn’t quite so forgotten after all, especially when a Literary Lady arrives with the perfect surprise gift.

If you read last week’s blog, you’ll know it was my birthday and I was a little miffed at the lack of celebration.

I kid you not—an insult!

Susan did say, “Happy Birthday,” but I expected more. It turns out she was teasing me. I had lots of pets and cuddles, extra Milkbones and my favourite chicken for supper.

Now, it happened to be the Literary Ladies group that Saturday and, when they heard it was my birthday, I was overwhelmed with birthday wishes and cuddles. Quite fitting for Princess Penny, don’t you think?

There were no balloons. Next year I’ll remind Susan to do some decorating.

But I did get a surprise present!

Those treats look tasty.

Sarah, one of the Literary Ladies, brought it for me. She writes romance and she’s quite good. Her stories have me wondering if perhaps I should look for a bit of doggie romance.

What do you think? Perhaps not, I don’t want to make Susan jealous.

You see, when the ladies come, I get to hear their writing. There’s Canadian history, historical fiction, sci-fi and speculative fiction. Now, that’s quite a selection! A bit rough at times, but Susan says that’s because they’re first drafts. They get better as the stories are polished and made ready for publishing.

It’s quite a talented group.

Oh, I digress. I was talking about my surprise present.

Psst! Listen carefully. I have to whisper because I might offend Susan.

I don’t want to make a scene, but I did not get a present from Susan.

I kid you not. Treats, yes. Cuddles, yes. But not one present.

Sarah, however, gave me a neat little carrier bag and inside was a fluffy yellow chick that squeaks! I can shake it, toss it around and carry it in my mouth.

I love it!

Oops, just a minute—that wasn’t all. The bag also contained peanut butter treats. Much tastier than my plain old Milkbones.

I think Sarah understands princesses.

Writing Update

Progress on The Painting is very exciting. We’re almost at the end of Draft One!

I’ll give you a little hint. The title of the last-but-one chapter is A Life or Death Decision.

Now that’s got you guessing, hasn’t it? 😀🐾

This week, we also moved most of Susan’s e-books into Amazon Kindle Select. Susan says it was a “business decision.”

Hmm … not sure about that.

But I should remind you that The Sackville Hotel Trilogy: The Blue Pendant, Anna’s Legacy and Sarah’s Choice re still available in audiobooks at Kobo and most places where audiobooks are sold. And all Susan’s paperback books are available from Amazon and other online retailers or can be ordered through bookstores.

Until next time,

Tail wags and doggie licks
